FACTS: About the MHS Mobile Dental School-Based Preventative Dental Program
Our ultimate goal is to provide dental care to those in need or that are under-served. We take pride in providing this service the right way and have taken extreme steps to make sure that everything we do is known and approved by the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners trough Regulation 61 (See regulation below). For your information, here are some important facts about our program.
- MHS Mobile Dental is approved by the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners (MSBDE) through Regulation 61. The MSBDE is the regulatory body for oral healthcare in Mississippi. This is NOT the state's dental association.
- MHS Mobile Dental is in compliance with Mississippi Medicaid Code 5.5 which is their code that regulates mobile healthcare facilities. You are welcome to contact medicaid to get a list of providers that are in compliance with code 5.5.
- **Not being approved through the MSBDE Regulation 61 or in compliance with Medicaid Code 5.5 could pose a huge liability to not only to student-patients but the school district as well.
- MHS Mobile Dental is approved to provide mobile/portable dental care on-site and is approved to provide the following services: teeth cleaning, fluoride treatment, digital x-rays, sealants & restorations.
- No child can be seen unless a parent or guardian has signed both MSBDE approved consent and health history forms. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- MHS Mobile Dental never does injections or extractions on-site in a school setting. If that is deemed necessary by our state licensed and board approved dentist, the child will be referred to a dental office who has agreed in writing to take our referrals. The child's parents will be given information for quick access to the referral dental office. As with any dental office referral, the patient is welcome to go to any other dentist they choose.
- MHS Mobile Dental can be inspected at anytime and be asked to provide detailed service records at anytime by the MSBDE.
- Every patient that is treated by MHS Mobile Dental receives a "walk-out" statement as required by the MSBDE. This statement includes dental work performed, any necessary dental care needed, our contact info, and referral information if necessary.
- MHS Mobile Dental contracts with MS Licensed Dentists who are required to carry their our own liability insurance that can, and will, be provided to any school district that wants it.
- MHS Mobile Dental is required by the MSBDE to have a network of dentist that have agreed in writing to take referrals for any ongoing or emergency care. If there is not a dentist in the town that either accepts medicaid, is not accepting new patients, or just does not want to work with us, then according to MSBDE board regulations we can go to the next closest town that has a dentist that is willing to be a referral for the program.
- MHS Mobile Dental is required to provide the MSBDE, in writing, information regarding employees that will be working on-site including CPR cards or any state licensing that is required.
- All mobile/portable dental equipment has been inspected and approved by the MSBDE and all digital x-ray equipment has been approved and inspected by the MSDH Radiological Health Department.
- State law allows, and MSBDE approves, MHS Mobile Dental the ability to set up mobile/portable equipment ON-SITE to provide oral healthcare. Our equipment has been approved and inspected by the MSBDE.
- MHS Mobile Dental creates files on every patient and keeps them just like any other dental office would.
- MHS Mobile Dental is required, just like any other dental clinic, to comply with HIPPA laws and regulations

Mission Statement
The goal of the MHS Mobile Dental is to increase access to dental care for economically disadvantaged and under-served Mississippi children who are receiving little or no care by traditional means. Mississippi consistently ranks last or near the bottom of every study when it comes to access to healthcare, including oral healthcare. We will provide compassionate, comprehensive care to children on-site at their school, boys & girls club, or other organization during hours of operation using fully equipped and approved portable dental equipment by competent and caring licensed dentists' and dental practitioners.
Utilizing the most modern techniques and strictest infection procedures, we will provide comprehensive and preventive dentistry in an atmosphere that allows us to develop and maintain an honest and caring relationship between MHS Mobile Dental, the patient, and their school or organization. We will accomplish these goals in an environment which fosters a true winning relationship for all who are involved: the schools/organization, the parents, and most importantly, the children.
Schools win because we bring an on-site preventative oral healthcare program directly to the children who may have dental care needs in the most under served health care areas in Mississippi. These preventative services are needed as you can see by looking at research and articles on our Studies & Articles page or our Statistics page. Parents win because transportation issues, lost time from work, and time required to locate a willing provider are eliminated. The dental team wins because they can provide a much needed service to patients who generally are helpless in the management of their own healthcare needs while enjoying a reasonable standard of living and added flexibility giving them more time to devote to their own families. The children win because their dental needs are addressed in a more familiar and comfortable setting by both conservative early care and preventative education, thus allowing the students to concentrate on learning and not dental pain.
