About Our Community-Based Corporate Sponsorship Program
MHS Mobile Dental is the oldest and largest full-time mobile/portable dental clinic in Mississippi. MHS has been providing school-based preventative dental care on-site in Mississippi schools since 2010. MHS was the first full-time dedicated mobile dental clinic in Mississippi to be approved through regulation 61 (Mobile/Portable Dentistry) by the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners.
Through the end of 2024, MHS has provided a total of 168,000 school-based patient encounters with students in Mississippi public schools. During this period MHS has given back $13,970,731 in free/in-kind dental care services to patients who were uninsured or did not have any dental benefit at the time of service. We average giving back $931,382 in free dental care services annually which doesn’t even include our supplies and time. For a 15-year period (2010-2024), we provide an average $255 in free oral healthcare service to every child that we see who is un-insured or without benefits.
When we formed MHS Inc., we set itself up as a "for profit" company and still operate this way today. But in reality MHS operates the business and provides services much more like a non-profit. While our gross collections on average over the same time period has stayed steady, the amount of free care we provide coupled with the expenses to operate the business has steadily risen. With MHS giving away free care that is approximately 66% of what we collect, our margins run very fine to say the least. The good news is that we have always managed to operate on our own and still give back so much free oral healthcare without any loans or grants. But after covid-19, things have changed some. With inflation, we are seeing higher prices for all of our supplies and equipment while at the same time we are providing care to even more uninsured patients in the schools. And as our operations supplies costs continue to rise, the rates for services are staying the same. With operations that include paying a Dentist for each unit, having at least 11-12 contract labor dental assistants, supplies cost monthly, maintaining and updating equipment, two mobile teams, management staff members, insurance, as well as all many other costs and expenses; we are seeing margins getting dangerously close to putting a program like this in jeopardy.
MHS provides services in over 25 Mississippi public school districts, many Boys & Girls Clubs and other youth programs for over a decade and we want to be able to continue to offer this program to underserved families for another decade. There are many more statistics and operational numbers that we are glad to share in more detail. But for now, our goal is to reach out to the businesses and corporations in our community that are philanthropic and have a vested interest in the people of this community having access to quality healthcare even if they cannot afford it. We would like to sit down for a meeting to talk about our program and discuss the details of your business becoming a financial community corporate sponsor for our program. We have developed a sponsorship program that will highlight your involvement with our program for a very minimal financial sponsorship.
